Who are we?

When it comes to church, a multitude of expressions, experiences, opinions, assumptions, and expectations coexist. Choosing one to attend, or responding to an invitation from a friend, can be very daunting, as you never truly know what you are IN FOR. We understand. Churches can sometimes feel fake, awkward, boring, disconnected from reality, or simply peculiar. We don't want to be any of these things. We see a church that welcomes all home and equips people to navigate life.

WELCOMING ALL HOME
When you attend a Lighthouse Church you will be IN FOR a place that welcomes you home. We are intentional about removing unnecessary barriers so that all who are willing can find Jesus. This approach finds its roots in a decision made by the early church, as recorded in Acts 15:19. The context involved a Jewish culture that sought to impose a Jewish practice on the Gentiles who were turning to God as a prerequisite for church inclusion. The church leaders gathered together and concluded that this requirement was an unnecessary hurdle. We avoid the mindset of "that's the way we've always done it," or "that's just how we do it!" Instead, we preserve the core message without seeking not to idolise any specific methods. In our services, we make a conscious effort not to use “insider” language. Our services are consistently and creatively planned with the assumption that it is someone's first church experience.

EQUIPPING PEOPLE TO NAVIGATE LIFE
When you attend a Lighthouse environment you will be IN FOR an approach and content that is aimed to equip you to navigate life. If we can successfully welcome all home, there will be churched, unchurched, christian, and non-christian people in our services. Add to this the complexity of life, personalities, and attention spans, we have a really big challenge on our hands. Again we look at how Jesus handled this very issue.

Luke 15 records a highly diverse crowd and the religious people were complaining that Jesus would even consider anyone else. His response was three stories about something of immense value being lost and how the natural response to this was a sole focus on that which was lost. Jesus started with the common ground of human experience and emotion. From here, He delivers a truth about how God views people and in doing so answers the question of why He spent time and ate with certain people. This is a powerful example of inclusion and instruction. It is both welcoming and equipping. At every service you will be IN FOR a respectful, non-judgmental environment you can find Jesus or follow Jesus at your own pace.

Conclusion

At the Lighthouse, you will be invited to experience an active, living faith. Acts 3:15 portrays Jesus as the author of life, and we firmly believe that finding Him marks the beginning of navigating life successfully. To facilitate this journey, we have created small groups called Nav Groups. Within these groups, you will frequently encounter the concept of "abiding in Christ," derived from Jesus' challenge in John 15:5: "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." Finding and following Jesus are how we believe our vision is best achieved. This is why you will be invited to live IN Christ and FOR people.
